Lebanon, long serving as a safe haven for its region, is a complex concoction of culture and religion. But a long-standing struggle for power has transformed the Middle Eastern melting pot into a volatile battleground, and some of those tussling are ruinously destroying the Lebanese identity and portraying a defective one to the outside world. A deeper look sees Lebanon as a treasure in its diversity, a treasure in its variety and a treasure in its history. Lara Khoury envisions a peaceful and glorious Lebanon where people can unite with all differences set aside.
Phoenix takes inspiration from the mythical bird of the same name and tells the optimistic story of regeneration and rebirth. Just like the vibrancy of a phoenix and Lebanon’s make-up, the looks of the collection are comprised of abstract color juxtapositions: Dusky rose and burgundy sit beside golden yellow and azure blue. Meanwhile, pleats, ruffles and gathers form a celebratory vision of togetherness, encompassing the idea that difference can co-exist and should be embraced.
